RECOVERY RESOURCES

Understanding Your Options for Help.

Recovery doesn’t look the same for everyone. Understanding the different types of support available can help you or someone you love determine what the next step should be.

You Don’t Need to Have Everything Figured Out.

If you know something needs to change but aren’t sure what kind of help you need, that’s okay.

Addiction recovery can involve different types of support depending on the person, the substance involved, their physical health, their circumstances, and where they are in the recovery process.

Recovery coaching can be one part of that support system, but it is important to understand what coaching is — and what it is not.

Take the Alcohol Use Self-Assessment.

It can be difficult to recognize how much alcohol is affecting your life while you’re living through it. This short self-assessment can help you take an honest look at your alcohol use and better understand what your responses may mean.

Sometimes the first step is simply asking yourself the right questions.

Recovery Coaching & Clinical Treatment

Both can play important roles, but they serve different purposes.

RECOVERY COACHING

Focused on Moving Forward

Recovery coaching is non-clinical, person-centered support focused on helping someone work toward and maintain recovery.

  • One-on-one support
  • Personalized guidance
  • Accountability
  • Goal setting
  • Building healthier routines
  • Navigating day-to-day challenges
  • Supporting long-term recovery

CLINICAL & MEDICAL CARE

When Treatment Is Needed

Medical and behavioral health professionals provide services that are outside the role of a recovery coach.

  • Medical evaluation
  • Medically supervised detoxification
  • Diagnosis
  • Mental health treatment
  • Medication management
  • Inpatient or residential treatment
  • Emergency medical care
Recovery coaching does not replace these services when they are needed.

Sometimes the First Step Needs to Be Medical Care.

Depending on the substance involved and the level of physical dependence, suddenly stopping alcohol or certain drugs can cause serious withdrawal symptoms.

Recovery coaching is not medical detoxification and should not be used as a substitute for medical care when withdrawal could be dangerous.

If someone appears to be experiencing a medical emergency, severe withdrawal, overdose, loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, seizure, or another immediate danger, call 911.
